Using the LEDs to Diagnose Prob-
lems
The USB Network Adapter and HomeConnect hub each have
LEDs (light emitting diodes) that can be used to diagnose instal-
lation and connection problems.

Power LED not lit.
The power adapter may not be plugged in correctly, or the power
adapter is bad. Check all of your power adapter connections. If
the problem persists, you may have a bad power adapter. Re-
place only with another HomeConnect hub power adapter.
The LED corresponding to a port that has a connection is not
lit
The most common cause is a defective network adapter or cable
connection.
First, check that the Ethernet cable connectors are firmly in-
serted in the proper ports. If the problem persists, try using
another Ethernet cable.
If you have purchased additional Ethernet cables that are not a
part of the home network kit, make sure that they are "straight-
through" cables, rather than "crossover" cables.
Finally, check that the devices being connected to the hub are
powered on and operating correctly.
The Collision LED is lit
The Collision LED flashes each time a collision is detected on
the network. Collisions are part of normal network operation. if
the LED appears to be continually lit, however, there may be a
fault on your network. Check the following:
Your network setup-make sure that your network is set up
correctly with the proper cabling.
The equipment that is connected to your hub-make sure
that there are no faulty devices on your network. A faulty
device could be producing excess traffic that is flooding
the network.
The link between two HomeConnect hubs does not work.
If you cannot get a link established between two HomeConnect
hubs, check your hub connections carefully (see "Connecting
Hubs Together" earlier in this guide for more information) and
make sure that the Ethernet cable connectors are seated firmly
in their ports. If the problem persists, try another Ethernet
cable, or check for a "network loop," which occurs when two
devices in a network are connected by two cables. Each device
on your network only needs one cable connection to a hub.
Also, make sure that you do not connect the Uplink port on one
hub to the Uplink port on the other hub.
