Common SNMP Device Configuration

Common SNMP
Device
Configuration
Each SNMP device contains basic functionality and statistics derived from
standard MIBs (for example, RFC MIBs). These configurables and statistics
are considered common across all SNMP devices, not just 3Com-specific
devices. For more information on these configurables and statistics, see
“SNMP Device Common Configuration Tabs” in the
Enterprise
Management Suite Administration Guide
.
Exporting and
Importing SNMP
Devices
You can export SNMP devices, device folders, bays, and racks contained
in the
Equipment
root folder to a plain text file and then import them
back into another EMS server instance. This is not a database backup, just
a plain text file that can be read by the same EMS server or a different
EMS server. For example, this feature allows you to save your list of SNMP
devices, device folders, bays, and racks prior to upgrading the EMS server.
If you do not have EMS Administration privileges you can not use this
feature.
For more information please refer to the Auto-deployment chapter in the
EMS User Guide.
Importing SNMP
Devices from HP
OpenView
You can synchronise the SNMP devices and their community strings
from HP OpenView Network Node Manager using EMS.
HP OpenView Network Node Manager must be installed on the same
machine as the EMS Server if you wish to use this feature.
This feature is only supported on Microsoft Windows platforms.
To enable this feature, the
Allow HPOV Devices Import
attribute in the
HP Openview tab must be set to
Yes
. This enables an
HP OpenView
pull-right sub-menu from the Equipment root in the tree. This
sub-menu provides the following options:
Create Device File
This option creates a tab separated file based on the information
obtained from HP OpenView. The tab separated file is created in an
HPOpenView
folder on the EMS Server. This allows the contents of the
file to be reviewed or edited, if required.
