Verifying Software Releases on a New System and Modules
When you purchase a new chassis and modules or if you have had a
system in storage and are just now installing it, you may have a collection
of modules with incompatible software. Therefore, unlike the previous
procedure, you cannot install all modules and then power up the chassis
to check their release numbers. Instead, a step-by-step approach is
needed:
1
Install one EME module in an empty, powered-off chassis, according to
the instructions in the
Enterprise Management Engine Quick Start Guide
.
2
Power on the chassis and connect to the EME module via the serial
(RS-232) port. (You cannot Telnet in-band because you do not yet have an
IP address defined for the system.)
3
At the EME prompt, enter:
show module all verbose
4
Scroll down to the end of the display and locate the following
information for this EME module:
■
Four software images on the module (EMC boot, EMC operational,
EME boot, EME operational)
On an EME module in either slot (8 or 9), notice that the EMC code is
always in
sub
slot 1 and the EME code is always in
sub
slot 2.
■
CPU RAM size
5
Analyze the EME software and determine your next steps:
■
Do the four different software files on the EME module (EMC boot,
EMC operational, EME boot, EME operational) match the
requirements in Table 1 on page 11? If not, note the images that need
to be upgraded. (At minimum, you will need to upgrade the EME
operational software to release 3.0.5.)
