Verifying Module Software Releases and Compatibility

6
If you need to upgrade any software on your EME to conform with the
requirements in Table 1, before you upgrade it, determine if the EME
module has the required amount of CPU RAM:
■
If the display shows the number 20, you can proceed to upgrade the
software.
■
If the display shows the number 8, you need to increase the CPU RAM
before you can upgrade the software. You must replace the 4 MB
DRAM card in each EME module with a 16 MB DRAM card. After you
install it, it combines with 4 MB of permanent RAM to yield the
required 20 MB. To order a 16 MB DRAM card (order number
3CB9EE), contact your network supplier or 3Com representative.
Before you upgrade the RAM,
read the related cautions
in the section
titled
“Prerequisites for Software Installation”
in this chapter. Installation
instructions are provided in the packaging of the 16 MB card.
7
Upgrade your EME software, following the procedures in these sections:
■
Terminology for the EME Module
■
Upgrading the EME Module to Release 3.0.5
8
Install all other switching modules in the powered-up chassis, according
to the procedure in the module
Quick Start Guides
.
9
Use the
show module all verbose
command to evaluate their software
compatibility with the upgraded EME.
CAUTION:
Modules in the same chassis must operate at compatible
software levels. See Table 1 on page 11 for compatible software levels.
Essentially, if you have already upgraded the EME, all switching modules
must now be upgraded to release 3.0.5.
10
Upgrade the software on each switching module, following the
procedures provided in this chapter. For instructions, see the sections:
■
Upgrading Layer 2 Switching Modules to Release 3.0.5
■
Upgrading Multilayer Switching Modules From 2.1 to 3.0.5
■
Upgrading Multilayer Switching Modules From 3.0 or 3.0.1 to 3.0.5
■
