Parameters
seconds
: Interval, in seconds, at which an interface transmits hello packet. It ranges from 1 to 255.
Description
Use the
ospf timer hello
command to configure the interval for transmitting Hello messages on an
interface.
Use the
undo ospf timer hello
command to restore the interval to the default.
By default, the Hello interval is
z
10 seconds for an interface of
p2p
or
broadcast
z
30 seconds for an interface of
p2mp
or
nbma
Hello packets are periodically sent to find and maintain neighbors and used for DR/BDR election. The
hello seconds value
must be identical on interfaces attached to the same network segment. Otherwise,
neighbor relationships cannot be established between routers.

Examples
