One VP tunnel per port can be allocated to point-to-multipoint calls.
Each of these VP tunnels is associated with a virtual UNI; it has its own
ILMI MIB, UME management, and addressing operations (see “Virtual
UNI” on page 104 in the Management Guide).
The following limitations hold:
The maximum number of VP tunnels for the switch is 64
The maximum number of VCs per point-to-point VP tunnel is 512
The maximum number of VCs per point-to-multipoint VP tunnel is 32
Configuring VP
Tunnels
You configure a VP tunnel for a port of the CoreBuilder 7000HD using
several levels of parameters:
Enable/disable VP tunneling for the entire switch
Enable/disable VP tunneling for a specific port
Definition of VP tunnel at an enabled port by assigning a VPI value and
a tunnel type (P2P or P2M) to the tunnel.
VP Tunneling through
a WAN VP Switch
A common application of the VP tunneling capability is to allow a
CoreBuilder 7000HD switch to establish a NNI connection with a remote
CoreBuilder 7000HD switch over a WAN VP switch in such a way that the
WAN VP switch is transparent to the NNI connection. The ATM control
plane information and the user virtual channels carried in a VP tunnel
pass transparently across a public network which offers the VP
cross-connect service.
VP Switch
A VP switch or cross-connect uses a virtual path to achieve more efficient
switching for sets of virtual channels that have the same source and
destination stations. The VP switch is set up to look only at the VPI value
of the cell header. All cells with the same VPI value are switched in the
same way, regardless of their VCI values. Thus if all virtual channels that
