LAN Emulation in the CoreBuilder 7000
149
The ATM address of the LES with which it wishes to communicate over
an ELAN
The MAC address of the LES with which it wishes to communicate
over an ELAN
The ELAN name of the ELAN it wishes to join
Accordingly, there are three possible ways (search policies) that the LECS
can try to identify an appropriate LES for the LEC:
1
The LECS searches for an ELAN whose LES has the required ATM address.
2
The LECS searches for an ELAN which contains the LES with the required
MAC address.
3
The LECS searches for an ELAN with the required ELAN name.
These three policies are tried by the LECS in order. If one doesn’t succeed,
the next is tried. The search policies can be displayed by management.
Connecting LEC to LES and BUS
LES and BUS connections are presented above (see “Emulated LAN
Connections” on page 141). After the initial registration of the LAN
Emulation Client (LEC) with the CoreBuilder 7000 ATM switch, the LEC
sets up the Control Direct VCC, a direct bi-directional point-to-point
connection with the LES. In addition, the LES adds the LEC to its Control
Distribute VCC, a uni-directional, point-to-multipoint connection.
The LEC then interrogates the LES for the BUS ATM address and sets up
the Multicast Send VCC, a direct bi-directional point-to-point connection
with the BUS. In addition, the BUS adds the LEC to its Multicast Forward
VCC, a uni-directional, point-to-multipoint connection. These
connections enable direct communication to and from the LEC to the LES
and BUS, as well as connections for flooding data (that is, connections for
Multicast, Broadcast and Unknown data) to all the LECs in the same
Emulated LAN (ELAN).
