commands. The following table shows the various operational states that
can occur when you disable either auto-discovery or auto-configuration:
Auto-Discovery
The auto-discovery procedure configures the two parameters: ATM
Interface type and IME Type.
ATM Interface type and IME Type are determined automatically by
auto-discovery only when both adjacent IMEs are running ILMI version
4.0. Otherwise, the manual settings are used as shown in the sections
below.
The ATM interface type determines the interface protocol used by the
port and can be one of the following:
UNI—for communicating with an edge device or ATM end-user (user)
E-IISP—for communicating with a 3Com network device (node)
IISP—for communicating with a third party network device (node)
NNI/PNNI—for communicated between network devices (node)
PNNI is available in version 4.5 extended only.
The ports are initialized to the UNI interface type at the factory. You do
not need to manually reset the interface type except as indicated in the
following sections.
The IME type determines the role that the port assumes vis-a-vis its peer
and can be one of the following:
User-Side
Network-Side
Symmetric
