In Figure 17, the hierarchical network is created with the same nodes.
Each node belongs to one of the peer groups. This example will also be
used in later sections to describe the different aspects of PNNI.

Lowest Level Hierarchy
Peer Group Leader
The peer group leader is responsible for transmitting its groups
information to the next higher level in the hierarchy. The peer group
leader will transmit an
aggregated topology
to the next level. This is a
generalized list which contains the summary of the reachable addresses
for its group. For example, it would broadcast the name of the group, but
not the individual members. This common information is also referred to
as
aggregated information
.
In Figure 17, there are 17 nodes which are represented by small circles.
Each node belongs to a peer group which is designated by a larger circle.
The peer group leader is the shaded circle in the group. Exactly how the
leader is chosen and configured is explained in the next section. In
essence, aggregated or summarized information is transmitted upstream,
