CoreBuilder 7000 Family of ATM Switches

Device Management

You can use the CoreBuilder 7000 Administration Console and/or the
Transcend Enterprise VLAN Manager (or other SNMP-based network
management application) to manage your CoreBuilder 7000 family ATM
switches.

Administration Console—Local Management Application

The CoreBuilder 7000 family ATM switch administration console is a
character-oriented, menu-driven user interface for performing
system-level administration via the Local Management Application (LMA).
You can also operate the LMA through a virtual terminal protocol, such as
Telnet or Remote Login. This guide explains all the LMA commands in
detail. See Chapters 2 through 13.

SNMP-Based Management—Transcend

TM

Enterprise Manager

For more complete network management, use an external SNMP-based
application such as Transcend

TM

Enterprise Manager. Transcend provides

logical views and control for your switched virtual LANs. In addition, it
extends the SNMP capabilities of the switches with a common user
interface and sophisticated administrative features that optimize network
configuration, oversight and troubleshooting. For more information on
Transcend, contact your 3Com representative.

Chassis Management —Single IP

The CoreBuilder 7000 family switch has a single IP address which serves
both the switch card and any CoreBuilder 7200, 7400, 7600, 7800, and
7900 interface cards installed in the CoreBuilder 7000 chassis.

The single-IP feature, which is supported by version 5 of the Transcend
Enterprise Manager application, unifies all interface cards in the chassis
into one entity for simpler management. You can browse data for all
interface cards in the MIB-II interface table and you can produce RMON
history graphs.

Interruption-free

Operation

The CoreBuilder 7000 family ATM switch is designed to meet the
requirements of environments where network interruptions cannot be
tolerated.

Hardware Redundancy

The CoreBuilder 7000 family ATM switch platform has a fully redundant
design, with dual load-sharing power supplies and redundant switching
engines. All CoreBuilder 7000 family ATM switch interface cards and
