Testing a Dial Plan
This section tells you how to test the currently loaded Dial Plan (that is,
the set of commands in the Dial Plan configuration file).
You test the current Dial Plan by placing a simulated call. Note that even if
the NBX 100 is completely installed and operational, a test places a
simulated, not an actual call.
Some of the behavior of a dial plan depends on timing; that is, the time
between dialed digits can affect how the dial plan works. When you test
the dial plan as described in this section, you test only the behavior of the
complete digit string, not the timing between digits.
Example: If you have an entry in the Dial Plan for digit sequences starting
with 94, with MIN and MAX set to 5, and you test the sequence 9411,
the Dial Plan test result will be
insufficient digits
. However, in actual
operation, the NBX 100 would time out waiting for the fifth digit, and
then attempt to place the call. In the US, this would most likely obtain an
outside line (9) and then dial Information (411).
You can specify a day of the week and a time by selecting entries from
the
Day/Time
list boxes. This instructs the NBX 100 to act as if the day and
time you select are the current day and time.
If you have Timed Routes defined in the Dial Plan, you can use different
day and time settings to determine whether the Timed Route works
properly.
Example: You might want a Timed Route to select route 35 during open
business hours Monday through Friday, but select route 36 when
business is closed on those days and on weekends. After you define the
Timed Route commands and import the modified file, you then test using
days and times within business hours (to see if the NBX 100 selects route
35) and during closed hours and weekends (to see if it selects route 36).
