Accessing Monitored Data

Distributed Networks with Remote Sites
Distributed networks with remote sites have a large number, possibly
hundreds, of smaller switches, such as WXR100 or WX1200 devices,
spread across a variety of sites; for example, branch offices or a chain of
stores. Each site has relatively few APs and clients. The domains might
not be configured for mobility because the sites will be geographically
distributed, and each site might have only a single switch. You can
configure a network domain for this type of network.
For distributed networks, 3WXM will communicate with the WXs over a
WAN, and you can turn off automatic data collection for trending, even
SNMP traps. The administrator can retrieve some fault and status
information, but can control what is collected and how often 3WXM
polls the network. With 3WXM, the administrator of a distributed
network can monitor and diagnose a single site or WX by collecting data
as it is needed.
Accessing
Monitored Data
The 3WXM service displays data in the Content panel when you click on
the Monitor tool bar option. To access the data, 3WXM client must have
a connection with the host running the 3WXM service.
Perform the following tasks to access monitored data:
1
Enable the 3WXM client to access the 3WXM service, if you have not
already done so. (See “Connecting to 3WXM Services” on page 504.)
2
Select the Monitor option in the main 3WXM tool bar.
By default, the 3WXM displays the Dashboard view of the Network Plan,
as shown in the following figure. (Note that the Network Plan is selected
in the Equipment tree of the Organizer panel on the left side of the
Dashboard.)
