Using a 3M™ Ranger™ Model 245 Blood/Fluid Warming Unit with high flow warming set Models 

24355, 24370, 24365

Purpose: 
The 3M™Ranger™blood/fluid warming system includes the Model 245 warming unit and a disposable, single use Ranger warming set and 

is designed to warm blood, blood products and liquids for infusion at flow rates from KVO-500mL/min.    Read the Ranger blood/fluid 

warming unit Operator’s manual and the Ranger warming set instructions for use prior to use.  

 

Before priming the warming set  

Meets 
standard 

1. 

Attach the Ranger blood/fluid warming unit to an IV pole at a height no higher than 44”, tighten the pole clamp securely. 

 

2. 

Plug the power cord into an appropriately grounded outlet. 

 

3.   Slide the Ranger warming set into the slot in the warming unit.  The set can only fit into the device one way.   

 

4. 

Remove excess air from IV solution bags before priming the warming set, and ensure all luer connections are tight. 

 

Priming the high flow warming set 

5. 

Connect the inlet line on the warming set to the fluid source and/or insert the Ranger set spikes into the IV bag port.   

 

6. 

Open clamps, invert the drip chamber with filter (Model 24355) and fill 2/3 full.  Turn upright.   

 

7. 

Close the clamp below the bubble trap and allow the bubble trap to fill. 

 

8. 

Gently tap the bubble trap against the warming unit to expel any trapped air. Place the bubble trap into the holder on the 

warming unit. 

 

9. 

Open the clamp below the bubble trap and continue to prime the patient line.  Close clamps until ready to infuse.     

 

10.  Turn the warming unit on.    

 

Prior to beginning infusion  

11.  Ensure that there is no air in the tubing before beginning infusion.   

 

12.  Verify that the Ranger blood/fluid warming unit is mounted on the IV pole at or below the level of the patient.   

 

Removing the warming set 

13.  Close the inlet (proximal) clamp and open distal clamp(s) on patient line.   

 

14.  Allow fluid to flow into the patient (this may take 2-3 seconds).  Disconnect distal line from patient line.     

 

15.  Remove the fluid warming cassette from the warming unit and discard according to institutional protocol.
