OPERATION
FOR YOUR SAFETY,

WARNING! IF YOU SMELL GAS:
• Do not try to start the water heater.
• Do not touch any electric switches;
do not use any phone in your
building.
• Immediately call your gas supplier
from a neighbor’s phone. Follow
the gas supplier’s instruc ons.
• If you cannot reach your gas
supplier, call the

re department.
• Failure to observe these warnings
could lead to
fi
re or an explosion,
resul ng in severe injury or death.

Check the GAS and WATER
CONNECTIONS for leaks before
fi
ring unit for the
fi
rst me.
ᅚ
Open the main gas supply valve
to the unit using only your
hand to avoid any spark. Never
use tools. If the knob will not
turn by hand, do not try to
force it; call a quali
fi
ed service
technician. Forced repair may
result in a
fi
re or explosion due
to gas leaks.
ᅚ
Be sure to check for the
presence of leaking gas toward
the bo om of the unit because
some gases are heavier than air
and may se le towards the
fl
oor.
ᅚ
Check the GAS PRESSURE. Refer
to “Gas supply and Gas Pipe
Sizing” on page 31.

Check for PROPER VENTING and
COMBUSTIBLE AIR to the water
heater.
ᅚ
Purge the GAS and WATER LINES
to remove any air pockets.
ᅚ
Do not use this appliance if
any part has been under water.
Immediately contact a quali
fi
ed
installer or service agency to
replace a
fl
ooded water heater.
Do not a empt to repair the
unit! It must be replaced!
Start-up Instruc ons
Read and understand these direc ons
thoroughly before a emp ng to
start-up the water heater. Make sure
the water is plumbed correctly before
a emp ng to start the water heater.
Check the data plate on the right side
of the water heater to ensure the
correct gas type. Do not use this water
heater with any gas other than that
for which the heater is con
fi
gured.
If you have any ques ons or doubts,
consult your gas supplier or gas u lity
company.
NOTICE:
A newly installed water
heater will have air in the gas line. It
may take several a empts to clear all
the air from the gas line.

Make sure the manual gas
valve for the water heater’s
supply line is ON.

Plug the water heater into a
grounded 120 VAC outlet.
NOTICE: Some unit may be
hardwired.

The user interface will display
the current temperature set-
ting. The default is 120°F.

To change the set
temperature press the “UP”
or “DOWN” buttons to raise
or lower the temperature. See
“Temperature Adjustment” on page
46.
Shut-Down Instruc ons

Press the “ON/OFF” button
and wait for the water heater
to shut-off.
Emergency Shut-Down
Should overhea ng occur or the gas
supply fail to shut o

follow these
steps.
1
Turn off gas supply to the
water heater at the manual
shut-off valve.
2
Press the “ON/OFF” button
on the water heater.
3
Turn off all electrical power
to the water heater. (Unplug
it from the 120 VAC outlet.)
4
Call a quali
fi
ed person
(licensed plumber, authorized
gas company personnel, or
authorized service technician for
assistance.
