Voice Mail Mode
Voice messages and greetings need to be compressed before they are stored in or-
der to increase the voice memory capacity of the Basic Voice Mail System from ap-
prox. 20 minutes to approx. 160 minutes. This requires an
Enterprise Voice Mail
li-
cence and DSP resources. The operating mode for the Voice Mail System is deter-
mined using the
Voice Mail mode
parameter on the DSP settings: The
Normal (G.711
or G.729)
hybrid mode handles both audio formats while the number of voice chan-
nels per node is restricted to 4. In the
Expanded (G.729 only)
mode there are more
voice channels available per node than in hybrid mode. However the quality of the
audio data is somewhat poorer as a result of the compression. All the Voice Mail au-
dio data (personal and global greetings, voice messages and the Audio Guide lan-
guages) must be available in G.729 format so it can be played back. Existing greet-
ings and voice messages in G.711 format can be converted to G.729 format using
the Aastra IntelliGate® WAV Converter. The configured mode is always valid for the
entire node.
