A fan coil unit is connected to a central heating and cooling supply and
generates the required temperature room by room. A room can be heated,
cooled and ventilated with a fan coil unit.
An HVAC system with fan coil units (HVAC = Heating, ventilation,
air-conditioning) consists of a central hot and cold water supply.
Fan coil units are mounted in the rooms and directly connected to the hot
and cold water circulation loops (see Fig. 1).

The heat exchangers and the fan are the most important components of
a fan coil unit (see Fig. 2). The hot or cold water flows into the heat
exchangers depending on the room temperature required.
The flow of water through the heat exchangers is controlled via the valves.
