Service and maintenance
The following chapter includes procedures required for the service and maintenance of the XSeriesG5
devices. These include: data and configuration backup, device software updates, part replacement
(spare parts list included), real-time clock maintenance, device restart, and power removal and
restoration. Follow your company policies to schedule appropriate maintenance windows. Review and
plan service or maintenance carefully.
DANGER
–
Serious damage to health / risk to life
. Do not perform maintenance when
an explosive atmosphere is present.
An XSeries
G5
installation is typically exposed to external environmental conditions. It is important to
regularly inspect for cleanliness, both externally and internally. Foreign contaminants can cause
damage to interior-mounted components that can render the XSeries
G5
inoperable.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
When the flow computer is powered by a battery with a solar panel charger,
it is very important to keep the face of the solar panel clean. Dirt and debris that cover
photovoltaic cells will reduce the charging ability of the panel. Develop a regularly scheduled
maintenance program and maintain a selection of spare components to minimize downtime.
NOTICE
–
Equipment damage:
Prior to performing any service on the flow computer, data
should be collected, and the configuration file saved for a possible restoration. Failure to collect
data and save the configuration file could result in a loss of measurement data and require a
complete system reconfiguration.
NOTICE
–
Equipment damage:
The external power/charger and battery connections must be
removed before removing all other cables, boards, and field connections. Connecting or
disconnecting cables and wires on the electronic board while power is applied can damage the
electronic components.
Do not reconnect the external power/charger and battery connections until all other cables, boards
and field connections have been reconnected.
It is very important to preserve data and configuration files before performing any maintenance
procedure or software upgrade. Follow the procedures in this section to ensure that backups of the
data and device configuration are available in a separate location from the device. You can move
collected data files to other systems for safe-keeping or import them into customer databases as
necessary.
Saved configuration files preserve the configuration of all the applications operating in the device.
Save the configuration in a separate location from the controller to restore or reuse. This can save a
considerable amount of time if configurations are complex and it prevents the need to configure a
controller from scratch.
The procedures in this section describe how to:
Perform a data collection
Update the startup (cold) configuration
Save the startup (cold) configuration
10.1.1
Collect data
Collect data to preserve measurement and log data:
Connect the laptop running PCCU to the device.
Start PCCU and connect to the device in Entry mode.
Click
Collect
on the top PCCU toolbar. The Collect screen displays.
