Computer/Workstation Connections
There are two ways to connect Diskus to a computer or
workstation: Ethernet or a form of SCSI (Small Computer System
Interface). Both are standard with Diskus. In both cases, you can
control Diskus and transfer video back and forth. The video
transfer rate is not real time; the type of installation, type of
workstation, and video being handled determines the actual
speed.
Ethernet Connections
There are several network types that use Ethernet type
communications. You must supply the required Ethernet
transceiver and drop cable to connect the Diskus’ 15-pin Ethernet
port to your network. See page 7-51 for information on
addressing.
SCSI Connections
The Diskus SCSI port uses a 68-pin high density D connector.
SCSI connections come in types: single-ended and, as an option,
differential. The maximum cable length for the single-ended
mode is approximately 18 feet (6 meters). The maximum length
for differential connections is approximately 75 feet (25 meters).
The SCSI format is most often used for archiving video from the
Diskus hard drives, or for situations that require high speed video
transfers.
A SCSI bus has a limit of eight devices, each with a unique
address. Diskus’ SCSI address is set to 6 at the factory. Change
the address in the Status menu if necessary.
