Getting Started
Startup Messages
As soon as you switch on the power, Diskus begins a series of self
tests to verify it is operating properly.
The messages "Abekas 6100" and the boot PROM version appear
on the video output.
After a few seconds the message "Uncompressing flash:" and the
current software version appear.
Within 40 seconds the monitor displays a frame of disk video and
a message indicating the disk drive(s) are OK. Diskus is now
ready for use. The drive OK message clears itself after 15 seconds.
NOTE: Unlike some previous Abekas disk
recorders, Diskus does not have separate disk drive
up/down switches. To shut down, simply turn off
the power switch. The drives park themselves
automatically the moment you turn the power off.
Using the GUI Interface
Diskus introduces a new method of control for Abekas disk
recorders, the GUI (Graphical User Interface).
You can use the GUI on the serial digital output, the analog RGB
and YUV outputs, or both digital and analog outputs at the same
time. As shipped from the factory, the GUI appears on the analog
outputs.
Select the preview play mode in the Defaults menu to
automatically clear the GUI from the outputs when you put
Diskus into play mode. This prevents recording the GUI if the
main output is the same as the GUI output.
