Workstation Initial Setup
Use this procedure for logging in and setting up Diskus for
operation on an Ethernet network.
In this example, the Diskus name is "diskus," with IP address
192.92.109.57.
STEP 1:
Add Diskus to the workstation’s host file
Normally, the hosts file in an SGI workstation is in the
/etc
directory. Use a text editor to add the IP address
and host name to the end of the file. This lets the
workstation recognize Diskus. The example below
shows the hosts file before and after adding
diskus
.
Note that the name entered into the hosts file is the
name that the network recognizes. You can enter a
different name in Diskus’ Ethernet menu, but this
could lead to confusion.
After adding Diskus.
The hosts file contains the
same hosts as before, with IP
address 192.92.109.57 and IP
name diskus added.
