There are three bits to indicate first field, start of field blanking,
and the start of horizontal blanking. The rest of the byte is coded
to protect the information in these three bits. The protection code
allows for correcting single bit errors and detecting double bit
errors.
A line number changes immediately after the active video and
before the blanking. In the following diagram the sync sequence
at the end of active video is the first to change when starting a
new blanking mode or field. There are no half lines: field 1 has
one more line than field 2.
