F14/F15: Adjusting the start control (time and current)
The welding parameters and the set welding current value determine the corresponding time and current for
the start control. If the correct amount of wire is not burned back during the start process, the current
and time must be adjusted accordingly. To increase the amount of wire burned back, the time and current
must be increased. To decrease the amount of wire burned back, the time and current must be decreased.
In the iArc mX Pulse DC welding procedure or iArc mX Move DC welding procedure the F14 value
is not displayed.
F16: Setting the wire creep
Wire creep refers to the slowing down of the welding wire feed speed to the wire feed speed at which the
welding wire is fed from the start of the process to the start of the arc. Wire creep is set automatically as
appropriate for the welding procedure and the welding wire diameter. This function enables the values to
be manually adjusted. If the arc does not ignite evenly, the wire feed speed must be reduced. If the arc ignites
evenly, the wire feed speed can be increased as much as possible to reduce the cycle time.
F17/F18: Setting the backburn time/backburn voltage
By setting the backburn time (F17) and backburn voltage (F18) optimally, it is possible to prevent the
welding wire from adhering to the component at the end of the welding procedure. The shape of the free
welding wire end can be adjusted to optimize it for the next weld start.
The backburn time and backburn voltage are automatically set as appropriate for the welding procedure,
welding wire material, and welding wire diameter. This function allows for the fine adjustment of the values
if the welding wire nonetheless burns to ashes or burns back too far.
