Open the battery compartment
➆
(see illustration above) and
remove the protective film from
the lithium battery.
Ensure that the side of the
battery with the “+” symbol
is always facing downwards.
Slide the battery compartment
back into the meter and press
gently inwards until it clicks
home. A battery will last for
about 1,000 tests.

automatically
saves the last
200 results
in memory
together with
date and time. To turn on the
meter and retrieve results from
memory, press the M button
briefly. In the display you see
“mem” at top left and the most
recent blood glucose result.
Press the S button to move
back one result in time.
Slide off
the test
strip guide
towards you
and clean it
with cold
water.
Afterwards you may disinfect
the test strip guide with
70% alcohol. Wipe the
measurement optics
components with a soft
lint-free cloth and/or a cotton
swab, which may be slightly
moistened. Make sure all of
the components are
thoroughly dry before sliding
the test strip guide back onto
the meter.
Memory
Cleaning the meter
1. With the meter
switched
OFF
, press
the
S
button. Using
the
M
button
choose between the
12 and 24h display, then press
the
S
button to set.
2. The hour display
flashes, press the
M
button until the
correct hour is
displayed, press the
S
button to set.
3. The minute
display flashes,
press the
M
button
until the correct
minute is displayed
and press the
S
button to set.
4. The year display
flashes, press the
M
until the correct
year is displayed
and press the
S
button to set.
5. The month
display flashes,
press the
M
button
until the correct
month is displayed
and press the
S
button to set.
6. The day flashes, press the

button until the correct day is
displayed and press the

button to set.
7. The signal for the
beep tone flashes,

again to turn off your meter.
When coding
your
Accu-Chek
Active
meter,
leave it turned
off. Take the
coding chip
from the pack of test strips and
slide it gently into the slot on the
side of the meter

above). Be sure to push the coding
chip fully home. Insert a test strip
to turn the meter on.
Compare the three-digit code
number (e.g.
133
) on the display
with the number printed on the
test strip container. The two
numbers must be identical.
Coding
Turning on
the meter.
Inserting
the test strip
automatically
puts the
meter in test
mode. Hold the test strip so
that the application area and
arrows are facing upwards.
Gently push the test strip in the
direction of the arrows into the
test strip slot

above) of your
Accu-Chek
Active
until you hear it click
into place.
In-meter
dosing.
When the
drop symbol
flashes in the
display, apply
the drop of
blood (1–2 µL is enough) to the
middle of the orange-coloured,
square application area. It is
OK to touch this area when
applying blood.
Out-of-meter dosing.
Pull the test strip out of the
meter as soon as the drop
symbol flashes in the display.
You now have 20 seconds to
apply blood to the test strip
and re-insert it before the
meter switches off.
Reading the blood
glucose result.
With in-meter dosing, the test
is complete after about 5
seconds. The result appears in
the display
and is
automatically
saved with
the date and
time.
Colour comparison.
You can verify the result by
comparing the colour of the
round control window on the
back of the test strip with the
colour scale
on the label
of the
test strip
container.
It is
important
that this check be performed
within 30-60 seconds after
blood was applied.
Testing for glucose
To ensure reliable results, you must periodically check the performance of
your Accu-Chek Active. Do this by running a quality control check using
Accu-Chek Active Control Solutions.
How to run a quality control test
Insert test strip into meter, this automatically puts
the meter in test mode.
Press the
S
button. A control test flag appears next
to the hour glass symbol to indicate that the result is a
control test.
Wait for the the blood drop to flash in the display before you apply
control solution.
