1.
Functional Reach Test:
A simple and
widely used clinical outcome measure
of standing balance and limits of
stability. The test measures the
difference, in inches, between the
arm’s length and maximal forward
reach, using a fixed base of support.
This test can be used to identify
balance impairments or changes
in balance over time.
2.
Sit to Stand Test:
A simple and widely
used clinical outcome measure assessing
lower extremity function. A reduction in
lower extremity function and strength
has been shown to predict subsequent
development of disability, as it may
reflect the effects of chronic disease,
coexisting conditions, and overall
physiologic decline. The 5 Times Sit
to Stand Test is a measure of strength.
The 30 second Sit to Stand Test is a
measure of strength and endurance.
3.
Timed Up and Go (TUG) Test:
A simple
and widely used clinical outcome measure
of mobility, lower extremity function, and
fall risk. The test requires a series of key
mobility tasks, including standing from
seated position, walking 10 feet (3 meters),
turning, stopping, and sitting down.
