Avoiding contamination
In all modes except unmodulated light, the aver-
age power drops by 3 dB. This is due to the mod-
ulation on which the signal coding of the AU
mode is also based.
Avoiding contamination
The FC-PC connector system uses direct con-
tact between the optical fibers. Even the slightest
contamination such as dust particles or sweat
from your hands (fingerprints) can lower the
measurement accuracy (insertion loss, reflec-
tion). This can also cause permanent damage
such as scratches on the optical surfaces. This
applies to the connectors on your OLS-6 and
also to the connectors on the test cables.

Clean the connectors on your test cables be-
fore connecting them by wiping off the sur-
face with a piece of cleaning strip.

When you take a break, always close the
protective cap if you remove the test cable
from the connector.

Clean at regular intervals.
If over time the output level deviates from the
normal value, the test connector might be soiled.
