Changing the Setup of Your WLAN
Changing the WEP Configuration Settings
Wired Equivalent Privacy
(WEP) is a security feature that has two
major functions: confidentiality and authentication. (For more on
authentication, see
.)
Your Wireless Router uses the
WEP Key to Use
(sometimes referred
to as the
Default WEP Key
) to encrypt data being sent over the radio
waves of your WLAN. The receiving WLAN stations must have
the same WEP Key to be able to decrypt the data.
If you want to enable WEP, all the computers on your WLAN must
have identical WEP settings.
The WEP security is disabled by default; however, Adaptec
recommends that you enable WEP security to protect your
network.
Caution:
Unprotected networks are vulnerable to security
breaches by unauthorized users.
You can enable or disable WEP encryption at any time. Choose one
of the situations listed in the boxes below, then go to the associated
section of this
User’s Guide
for help changing the WEP
configuration settings.
