Replacing a Disk Drive
When a disk drive fails
■
Its Drive Status LED flashes (amber if the disk drive is assigned
to an array, green if the disk drive is unassigned).
■
Its Drive Activity LED lights up solid amber.
■
The alarm sounds.
■
The system monitor displays an error event.
A failed disk drive should be replaced immediately.
Warning:
Drives and printed circuit board components are
sensitive to electrostatic discharge. To prevent damage,
establish a ground for yourself by using a wrist grounding
strap, or by touching the metal chassis prior to handling
the disk drives or printed circuit board components.
Note:
The disk drives are hot-swappable. There is no need
to power off the DuraStor 312R or the host computer
system. However, when removing a disk drive, ensure that
it doesn’t twist in your hand as a result of the spinning
disk. Pull it slightly from its locked position and allow it to
spin down completely before removing it.
To replace a disk drive:
1
Remove the front bezel. See
Removing the Front Bezel
on page 3-7
.
2
Identify the failed disk drive using the Drive Status LED. See
Drive LEDs
on page 4-5
.
