Stall
One-sided stall (spin)
The OMEGA 7 warns you of an impending spin by the increasing con-
trol pressure in the turn. If you maintain the brake differential on the
paraglider, you will then notice a marked reduction in control pressure
on the inside of the turn. In this situation, you must fully release the
control line immediately, enabling the OMEGA 7 to return to normal
fl ight of its own accord.
Flying a spin is not recommended although this manoeuvre does not
present any particular diffi culties with the OMEGA 7.
Full stall
The initiation of a full stall is effected by progressive symmetrical pull-
ing of both control lines. This reduces the forward speed. The airfl ow
and wind noise decrease. On reaching the stalling speed, the para-
glider initially goes into a brief deep-stall phase. Further pulling on the
control lines interrupts the airfl ow completely and the paraglider then
tips backwards into a full stall.
When recovering the wing from this manoeuvre, the canopy must be
«preinfl ated» over the entire wingspan. To achieve this, the control lines
are fi rst released slowly and only released completely after prein-
fl ation. If the canopy is not suffi ciently infl ated when fully releasing the
control lines, a line-over or cravatte may occur. In the event of a line-
over, it is important to keep the OMEGA 7 on course with controlled
braking and to sort the line-over by pulling down the Stabilo line. For
a glider in this category, the OMEGA 7 possesses minimal tendency
to shoot forward. It has not been possible to establish a stable deep
stall. See also section «Flying with a wet paraglider» on this topic.
Landing
On account of its high performance, landing with the OMEGA 7 calls
for a precise landing strategy by means of a clear plan. Abrupt chan-
ges of course in close proximity to the ground are dangerous becau-
se they may lead to the pilot penduluming. Only increase the braking
gradually at the end of the fi nal approach, in order to settle the glider
on its fl ight path, before you fully pull the control lines and completely
eliminate the forward speed.
Take particular care not to fall below the minimum speed when top
landing and in the fi nal approach because the braking effect is in-
creased due to the OMEGA 7’s high aspect ratio and low profi le
depth.
