Flying with a wet paraglider (deep stall)
When fl ying with a wet paraglider there is a risk of a deep stall. A deep
stall frequently comes about from a combination of several factors.
There is the increased weight of a wet canopy with a resulting higher
angle of attack, which tends to bring the paraglider closer to the
deep stall point. Also, the presence of water droplets on the fabric
has a detrimental effect on the laminar boundary layer in the nose
area, causing a signifi cant reduction in the maximum achievable lift.
If a wet paraglider is fl own at the lower weight limit, this will result in
a further small increase in the angle of attack as well as a lower air
speed on account of the reduced wing loading.
In order to avoid the danger of a deep stall with a wet paraglider, the
brakes should be used as little as possible and big ears should not
be used under any circumstances. As a further precautionary meas-
ure, the paraglider can be accelerated slightly with the speed bar
(25-40%). These measures result in a lower angle of attack.
Should the paraglider nevertheless get into a deep stall, the only
method of recovery is by acceleration using the speed system.
Winch launch
The OMEGA 7 is suitable for winch launching. When taking off in
windless conditions, ensure that the paraglider is laid out in an
arched or even wedge shape (risk of the glider rosetting).
Winch launch is only permitted if:
•
the pilot has completed a tow training course (only Germany/DHV);
•
the winch system is certifi ed for use with paragliders;
•
the winch operator has been fully trained in how to winch
paragliders.
Aerobatics
The OMEGA 7 is not suitable for aerobatics.
Motorised fl ight
The OMEGA 7 is not certifi ed for motorised fl ight.
