Info: ADVANCE recommends that you do not fly your
SUCCESS 2+ with a stirrup (see also ‘Flying with a stirrup’ in
the section “Use in flight“).
Installing the dual-chamber foam protector
The dual-chamber foam protector and impact plate supplied by
ADVANCE are designed to protect the back area of paraglider pilots
and is intended to minimise the risk of injury resulting from problem
takeoffs and landings.
The protector is made of foam, with three outer chambers. The inner
foam contains a volume of air which dissipates the energy of a crash,
and this dampens the impact. The risk of back injury is thereby consi-
derably reduced.
The protector also makes an important contribution to the best pos-
sible seating comfort and effective support for relaxed flying. The du-
al-chamber foam protector used conforms to LTF certification stan-
dards and is not universally compatible with other harnesses. The
complete foam protector should be pushed into the compartment
provided. A thin PVC plate is already built into the harness at the fac-
tory: this both shapes the lower part of the back, and provides pene
-
tration protection.
Attaching the cockpit
Two triangular rings at chest strap height as well as the tape loops
below are available for attaching the cockpit. The main carabiners
could also be used.
Info: There are two ADVANCE cockpits you can use. The
GUARD cockpit for holding your reserve, and the CARRY
cockpit for baggage or ballast; both have an Instrument
panel and widely adjustable mounting.
Info: A cockpit can have a similar effect as cross-bracing -
and alter the glider’s flying behaviour.
Attaching a foot stirrup
Triangular rings at chest strap height, the loops underneath them,
and the round rings at the edge of the seatboard can be used to at-
tach a stirrup.
Caution: Always make sure that your stirrup does not get in
the way if you throw your reserve.
