3.3.3
LAN
The BMC firmware supports a LAN interface, providing RMCP/RMCP+ according to
the IPMI 2.0 specification.
The table below lists the supported network protocols.
3.3.3.1
ARP
Both standard ARP requests and responses (ARP opcodes 0x01 and 0x02) are sup
-
ported to propagate the BMC’s IP address in the system. Gratuitous ARP is sup
-
ported for dynamic address changes or failover scenarios. Other ARP opcodes are
not supported and will be ignored.
3.3.3.2
ICMP
ICMP is supported to allow network pings to/from the BMC.
3.3.3.3
RMCP/RMCP+
IPMI-over-LAN (IOL) uses RMCP as the messaging protocol, as defined in the IPMI
specifications. RMCP messages consist of the basic IPMI message with some
RMCP-specific overhead and use the UDP protocol for data transmissions.
UDP uses the IP protocol for data transmissions. Thus, the network stack must sup
-
port the IP and UDP protocols along with RMCP.
RMCP+ was added in the IPMI v2.0 specification. It is an enhanced protocol for
transferring IPMI messages and other types of payloads (e.g., serial data).
