NOTE: When a modified VF is obtained, write it down on paper and use the
Cable menu’s PICK/EDIT LIST to enter the new cable type. To modify an
existing cable on the list, select the cable type and press the
Bcksp
key. A
menu screen will permit changing the VF and restoring the cable to the Cable
List.
To enter a new cable type, scroll to an available “OPEN” slot, and press the
Bcksp
key. Then follow the on-screen selections and use the alpha-numeric
keys to make the changes to Cable Type, Z0, and VF.
NOTE: Slots marked “OPEN Z0=33 VF=33” where made open by erasing a
cable using ETDR PC Vision. These can appear at any point on the Cable List.
Slots left open on the original Cable List are at the end of the list and appear as
“OPENnn Z0=10 VF=5.0” The nn = the number of remaining slots open on the
list.
Sample a Cable
Sample a Cable is a process entered via the Cable menu as shown in figure
3-67.

It involves connecting to a sample piece of cable of known measured physical
length [recommend between 10ft (3m) to about 50ft (15m) in length], select
SAMPLE A CABLE using the

key and follow the on-screen instructions to start.
Mark the end of the cable using the available cursor as shown in figure 3-68.
