Test 2. Power Stability
Description
Power stability is verified using a power meter (> 30 dB return loss)
This test must be performed in a stable environment where the ambient tem-
perature changes less than 1
°
C throughout the test.
Procedure
1
Turn on the Agilent 83438A and the power meter. Allow them to warm up for
one hour.
2
Connect a power meter to the Agilent 83438A’s front-panel
OPTICAL OUT
connector.
3
Remove any BNC termination on the rear-panel
MODULATION INPUT
connector.
4
Configure the power meter to measure total drift in output power over 15
minutes. Start the test.
5
After 15 minutes have passed, the total output power should not have drifted
more than ±0.02 dB. Record the maximum drift on the following line:
Maximum drift (15 minutes): ____________ dB
6
Configure the power meter to measure total drift in output power over 6 hours.
7
After 6 hours have passed, the total output power should not have drifted more
than ±0.05 dB. Record the maximum drift on the following line:
Maximum drift (6 hours): ____________ dB
