Tip:
For best PMD accuracy of fiber measurements, measure
over as wide a wavelength range as possible. The zero
dispersion wavelength is most accurately measured when it falls
near the middle of the measurement wavelength range.
Accuracy is slightly degraded if it falls near the edge of the
wavelength range, and is significantly degraded if it falls far
outside.
Wavelengths can be set within the range reachable by the
currently chosen tunable laser. However some combinations of
wide wavelength increment and high IF bandwidth may result
in a small shortening of the laser wavelength range available for
measurements at the highest sweep speed. In this case the
corresponding points of the traces will not be measured.
Swept measurements over long wavelength ranges or at
wavelengths where the laser has low power may include the
effects of a mode hop, where the laser can make a small jump in
wavelength. The wavelength is accurately measured at the point
where data samples are triggered, but some error can be
introduced because the swept samples are integrated over part
of the wavelength interval between the triggers. This can
sometimes be seen as isolated spikes, especially in the DGD
traces. See the tunable laser specifications for the conditions for
mode-hop free continuous sweeps.
Start (nm)
Sets the start wavelength. This setting is independent of the
settings specified for the X Scale Display which affect the
viewable range only.
Stop (nm)
Sets the stop wavelength. This setting is independent of the
settings specified for the X Scale Display which affect the
viewable range only.
Copy From Selected Graph
Sets the start and stop wavelength to the displayed endpoints of
the selected graph.
Normalization Range
Specifies the wavelength range and the wavelength increment
for the normalization precess.
