Characteristics
and specifications
The distinction between specifications and
characteristics
is described as
follows:
•
Specifications
describe warranted performance.
•
Typical
is nonwarranted information, but indicates tested performance
which most units will achieve.
•
Characteristics
provide useful, but nonwarranted and often untested in-
formation about the functions and performance of the instrument.
Charac-
teristics are printed in italics

Normalization
Normalization
removes amplitude variations caused by your test setup and
provides a known reference for comparison. It is very important to normalize
your test setup in order to make accurate measurements. Normalization
assures that measurement results reflect only the characteristics of your
device. Because the source power varies with the wavelength span, normaliza-
tion also improves the amplitude accuracy of the WDCA. This is accomplished
by adjusting the source power based on the specified normalization start and
stop wavelengths. This power will remain unchanged until another normaliza-
tion is performed over a different wavelength span.
N O T E
Normalization is required for each receiver input and is valid only for the sweep
mode used during the normalization process.
Wavelength
•
Wavelength
Calibration
uses the WDCA’s built-in absorption cell to cali-
brate wavelength accuracy. You can request a wavelength calibration at any
time. A wavelength calibration will automatically be performed each time
the TLS goes through its Lambda Zero cycle.
•
Wavelength
Resolution
is the resolution of the marker readout on a nar-
row wavelength sweep.
Note:
For broader sweeps, the WDCA reduces the
visible resolution. The GPIB marker query retains full resolution.
•
Absolute
Accuracy
refers to the wavelength accuracy after the user has
performed the user normalization and user wavelength calibration using the
