IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

•

WARNING

: Disconnect the power before beginning this

installation

•

WARNING

: To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock or injury

to persons observe the following:

Do not use this fan with any solid-state speed
control device.

Use this unit only in the manner intended by the
manufacturer.

Before servicing or cleaning the unit, switch
power off at the service panel. To prevent power
from being switched on accidentally when the
service disconnecting means cannot be locked
securely, fasten a prominent warning device, such
as a tag to the service panel.

Installation work and electrical wiring must be done
by qualified person(s) in accordance with all
applicable codes and standards, including fire-rated
construction.

When cutting or drilling into wall or ceiling, do
not damage electrical wiring or other hidden
utilities.

Ducted fans must always be vented to the
outdoors.

Do not install this fan in a ceiling thermally
insulated to a value greater than R-40

•

WARNING

: Do not use in kitchens.

•

WARNING

: Sufficient air is needed for proper combustion and

exhausting of gases through the flue (chimney) of
fuel burning equipment to prevent back drafting.
Follow the heating equipment manufacturer’s
guidelines and safety standards such as those
published by National Fire Protection Association
(NFPA), and the American Society for Heating,
Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers
(ASHRAE), and local code authorities.

•

CAUTION

: For general ventilating use only. Do not use to

exhaust hazardous or explosive materials and
vapors.

• Never place a switch where it can be reached from the tub or
shower.

• Acceptable for use over tub or shower when installed in a GFCI
protected branch circuit.

Before beginning the installation, remove the blower housing
from inside the fan’s housing. Keep it and the packaged grill and
light reflector in the carton until needed so they do not get
damaged.

This fan is designed for mounting between 16” joists (center to
center). If your joists are more than 16” apart, headers will have
to be installed between joists in order to mount this unit. This fan
can be ducted either horizontally or vertically using the supplied

” x 10” duct adapter. It comes from the factory set up for

horizontal ducting.

Preparing the Fan for Installation

1. Select the desired location for the fan. It is best to install the fan

housing and wire the unit during the rough-in stage of
construction. Check the selected area from above and plan the
ducting and wiring before installation.

2. Select which direction you are going to duct the unit –

horizontally or vertically – and mount the damper frame in the
correct position (8 screws hold it in position). It comes from the
factory ready for horizontal ducting. To switch to vertical
ducting: Remove the 8 screws holding the damper frame in
place and flip the frame so the duct opening is on top of the
fan’s housing, then reinstall the 8 screws removed earlier.

3. Remove wire compartment cover and place it somewhere

accessible for installation later. Remove the selected electrical
knockout and install an approved electrical connector (not
supplied).

Mounting the Fan Housing

The housing is designed and set up at the factory to mount

between 16” on center joists. If your installation has 24” joists,
you will have to install headers between the joists and switch
the location of the 2 housing mounting brackets. They are
secured in place by 2 nuts (refer to Fig. 1).

Rough-in Stage, 16” On Center Joist Installation

Use the housing mounting brackets to secure the fan in

position. The brackets should be screwed to the bottom of the
joist as shown in Fig. 1. Adjust the height of the housing so
the fan housing will be flush with the planned finished ceiling.
Secure the fan’s housing height by tightening the 4 nuts which
hold the mounting brackets to the fan housing.
