Rough-in Stage, 24” On Center Joist
or
Existing Construction Installation
From above you will have to install headers between the joists.
The headers will have to be 9” apart. Remove the fan
mounting brackets (2 nuts hold them in place). Flip the
mounting brackets and reinstall them (loosely) back onto the
housing on the long side (refer to Fig. 2). Secure the housing
in place by driving 4 screws (not provided) in the top of the
headers. Adjust the height of the fan housing so that it is flush
with the finished ceiling. Secure the fan’s housing height by
tightening the 4 nuts which hold the mounting brackets to the
fan housing. For existing construction a cut out will have to be
made in the ceiling – 8

Ducting
NOTE
: All ducting must comply with local building codes.
1. Connect the correct ducting to the fan (AK150L/AK200/AK300
models come complete from the factory with a 3

collar), secure in place using duct tape or a screw clamp.
Always duct these fans to the outside through the wall or roof
cap. To ensure maximum delivery keep the length of duct and
number of elbows to a minimum.
Electrical Wiring
CAUTION
: Make sure the power is switched off before making
this installation.
NOTE
: All wiring must comply with local and national codes.
You must ground this unit.
1. Run wiring from the wall switch (not provided) to the housing
electrical compartment, 1 neutral (white), 1 ground (green or
bare copper wire), and 3 hot (red/black/yellow leads connected
to the switch). Secure the electrical wires to the housing with an
approved electrical connector (make sure you leave enough
wiring in the box to make the connection to the fan and light
receptacle).
2. From where you have access to inside the fan’s junction box,
connect the white wire from the house to the white wire of
the fan and light receptacle. Connect the black wire from the
fan switch to the black wire of the fan’s receptacle, then
connect the wire from the main light switch to the red wire of
the light harness and the wire from the night light switch to
the yellow wire of the light harness (use approved electrical
conductors). It is important that the green ground wire from
the house is connected to the fan’s green ground screw. Once
all wiring is complete and secure, replace the fan’s wire
compartment cover.
Completing the Installation
After you have installed the housing in the ceiling, run ducting
from the unit to the outside and have made all the necessary
electrical connections you can complete the installation.
Blower Installation
Reinstall the fan’s blower
assembly. It is secured in place
using 2 “j” hooks and 2 wing
nuts. Install the bottom of the
“j” hook in the blower housing
mounting bracket and install
the wing nuts on the “j” hooks
(refer to Fig. 3). Position the
blower for either horizontal or
vertical discharge depending
on your installation. Slide the wing nut (installed on the “j”
hook) over the “U” shaped bracket on the blower housing.
Secure the blower in position by tightening down the wing
nuts (do not over tighten), and plug the blower in.
Grill Installation
Model AK150L comes complete with a packaged grill and lens.
To install the grill, flip open the center panel which holds the
glass lens (2 clips hold it in place). Insert the light reflector into
the centre opening of the grill, aligning the 2 round pegs on
the grill with the 2 round holes on the light reflector. Once the
reflector is in place, plug the light harness into the appropriate
wiring jack. Secure the grill in place by tightening down the 2
factory installed grill screws (refer to Fig. 4). Install the light
bulbs (main lighting: 100 watt max. type A; night lighting: 7
watt max. type C) and close the center panel.
The installation is now complete. You can turn on the power
and check that the unit is operating properly.
