Note: Air conditioners use surface water as a cooling
medium. The boat must be in the water and
the raw water supply system must be properly
activated prior to use. Operation without proper
cooling could cause the air conditioning circuit
breaker to trip and could cause system damage.
Always check for proper water flow out of the air
conditioning pump discharge thru-hull when the
air conditioner is operating.
10.5 V-Berth and Dinette Table
The V-berth and table is located in the bow area, forward of
the galley. It has a large berth set against the forward bulkhead
with hatches below the cushions that provide access to storage
or the optional air conditioning unit. The backrest cushions
are hinged and convert to single, overhead berths.
Daylight and fresh air is provided to this area by an overhead
opening hatch. The hatch is equipped with a removable
screen and additional lighting is provided by 12-volt lights in
the ceiling that are controlled by a switch near the door on the
galley cabinets. Refer to the Ventilation Systems chapter for
more information on operation the hatch and screen.
The table is mounted on an adjustable pedestal that allows
the V-berth to be converted to a double berth or a dinette. A
friction clamp on the pedestal base secures the table at the
desired height and a gas charged spring helps raise it.
To convert the dinette to a double berth, loosen the friction
clamp on the pedestal base and push down to lower table.
When the table is all the way down, tighten the clamp to
secure it in that position. Place the separate filler cushion on
the table to complete the conversion. To convert the berth to
a dinette, remove the filler cushion, loosen the clamp and lift
the table up to the dinette position, then clamp the pedestal.
The table should be in the full down position with the filler
cushion in place whenever the boat is run offshore or in heavy
sea conditions to prevent damage to the pedestal assembly.
If the optional air conditioner is installed in your boat, it will
be installed in the center V-berth storage compartment, which
should not be used for storage when the air conditioner is
installed.
Pullman Berths
Each V-berth backrest cushion is hinged at the top and converts
to a single overhead berth. To convert the backrest cushions
to overhead berths, raise the bottom of the back rest up until it
is horizontal and the brackets automatically lock in the berth
position. Check the brackets and make sure they are locked
and secure. To lower the berth to the backrest position, press
the release lever on the support brackets, one at a time, while
supporting most of the weight of the berth so it will not drop
