Adjustment of V-Belt Tension 

Replace and check the component in the 
intervals specified in Periodical maintenance 
chart (Page 5-1) (Table 2). Replace and check 
the component according to the following 
instructions:

Engine V-belt drives the battery charging 
alternator and engine coolant circulation pump.  
(Figure 25). Adjust the tension of the belt as per 
the following instructions:

1. 

Remove the battery negative (-) terminal to 
prevent operation of the engine. 

 : Inadvertent or remote operation 

of the engine may cause personal injuries or 
death. Always disconnect battery terminals 
before working on the engine. Always 
disconnect the negative (-) battery cable 
firstly, and re-connect the negative (-) battery 
cable lastly to decrease any arcs when you 
are disconnecting the battery cables.

Remove V-belt protection covers or upper 
panel and battery charging alternator 
protection cover. 

3. 

Loosen the alternator pivot bolt to perform 
the adjustment easier. Loosen the 
adjustment ring bolt on the upper part, and 
remove the slackness of the belt. Use 
original spare belt. Remove the slackness 
of the belt by tightening the battery 
charging alternator.

Remove the battery negative (-) terminal to 
prevent operation of the engine.

Replace 

and check the component according to the 
following instructions:

Rotate the alternator a few times to stretch 
the V-belt. Adjust the belt tension properly 
by tightening the adjustment ring bolt and 
check the tension by applying ~10 kg load 
on the center of the longest part of the belt. 
The displacement (deflection) of the belt 
due to the load applied shall be between 8 
and 10mm. Tighten the alternator pivot bolt 
and adjustment ring bolt when the V-belt 
tension is adjusted in the required level.

Tighten the adjustment bolts, install the belt 
guide and protection covers. Connect 
battery terminal cables (negative (-) cable 
last) and operate the generator set.
