Thermostat
Replacement of the Thermostat
Replace and check the component in the
intervals specified in Periodical maintenance
chart (Page 5-1, Table 2). Replace and check
the component according to the following
instructions (Figure 26):
1. Remove the battery negative (-) terminal
to prevent operation of the engine, let the
engine cool down and open all cabin
covers of your generator.
: Inadvertent or remote operation
of the engine may cause personal injuries or
death. Always disconnect battery terminals
before working on the engine. Always
disconnect the negative (-) battery cable first,
and re-connect the negative (-) battery cable
last to decrease any arcs when you are
disconnecting the battery cables.
: Let the engine cool down before
opening the Engine Coolant Heat Exchanger
filler cap (thermostat). Engine Coolant Heat
Exchanger under excessive temperature and
pressure may spurt hot vapors and cause
serious burns.
2. Remove the hose clamp connected to the
thermostat side with proper tools without
damaging the components.
3. Remove the outer bolts of the part
including the thermostat. Remove the
thermostat with the sealing gasket.
4. Clean the sealing gasket surfaces on the
connection points. Install new thermostat
and gasket. Apply heat-resistant liquid
gasket (Three Bond 1215 liquid gasket)
or equivalent on appropriate surfaces of
the gasket on the connection points.
Tighten the bolts with proper torque so
that the gasket and thermostat are not
damaged.
1. Top-up the engine coolant (ethylene
glycol
– distilled water) lost during the
maintenance and repair operation in a
proper way. Check whether the
thermostat cover is closed in a proper
way. Connect the battery negative (-)
terminal cable to allow the operation of
the generator. Close the noise insulation
covers of your generator before
operating.
