Understanding X.21 and V.35 DCMs
The X.21 and V.35 DCMs are single-circuit modules that offer data connectivity
conforming to X.21 and V.35 standards respectively. The modules can be installed
in either interface module position on the Control card.
These modules support subrate interface speeds (up to 64 kb/s) and super-rate
interface speeds (two connections up to 1024 kb/s each, or a single connection up to
1920 kb/s). If super-rate speeds are used, additional module positions must be
reserved, as described in section 19.11.
Data devices connect directly to these DCMs, eliminating the need for an external
DTU.
You must configure a module position for an X.21 or V.35 DCM before you can
configure the circuits of the module.

X.21 and V.35 circuit operating parameters
Before implementing any of the procedures in this chapter, you must know the
operating characteristics of the data device to be connected to the circuit.
Once you configure the module position, the circuit on the module assumes the
default settings and can be cross-connected. If you try to modify or cross-connect the
circuit on an unconfigured module position, the display presents an error message.
