Check that the cable connecting the terminal to the 2902 MainStreet system is
properly installed.

Set the power switch on the 2902 MainStreet system to the On (|) position.
The unit performs diagnostic self-tests, as described in
Installation
, section 4.4. If
these tests last more than 1 minute, see
Maintenance
, chapter 24.

Set the power switch on the node management terminal to the On position.

Check that the terminal is set up for:
•
8 data bits
•
1 stop bit
•
no parity
•
no local echo
•
9600 b/s

Wait until the diagnostic self-tests are finished. The self-tests are over when the
seven-segment display at the rear panel flashes the letter P. If the display flashes
the letter F, there is a problem. See section 4.4 for information on self-tests.

Press the
↵
(<Return> or <Enter>) key on the keyboard at approximately 1-second
intervals until a startup message similar to the one below appears.

If the message does not appear, check the connections and setup of the node
management terminal.

At the “Enter level” prompt, type your access level number and press the
↵
key. See
section 11.5 for information on access levels.
If this is the initial session, type <5> and press

. Level 5 users have read and write
access to all areas of the NMTI.
If you do not enter an access level within approximately 5 minutes, the screen
displays the message “Session idle timeout. Connection closed”, and the session
times out.

Enter your password at the password prompt and press
↵

If this is the initial session, type <mainstreet>. This is the default password for all
levels. The password is not case sensitive and is not displayed on the screen.
If the password is entered incorrectly, the system responds with “Incorrect
Password”. Press s
↵
to begin again at step 7.
If you do not enter a password within approximately 5 minutes, the screen displays
the message “Session idle timeout. Connection closed”, and the session times out.
Upon successful login, the system displays the NMTI top-level menu as shown in
Figure 10-1.
