Enabling, disabling, and resetting the user or T1/E1 ports
The user and T1/E1 ports can be enabled, disabled, or reset via the NMTI. Certain
configuration actions automatically set the user port to disabled, meaning that the
port has to be enabled again—for example, when the interface type is changed.

Loopback E on the user port
The loopback available on the user port is a bidirectional loopback—data on the user
port is looped back within the Speed Touch 591s at the point closest to the data
interface, while network data is looped back to the network. This loopback tests the
data interface at the user port.
Loopbacks can be either latched or timed. Timed loopbacks have a fixed duration of
5 min, although the loopback can be cleared manually before the 5 min expires.
Latched loopbacks remain in place until they are removed manually or the Speed
Touch 591s is reset.

Caution —
Loopbacks disrupt the traffic on the Speed Touch 591s.
In addition, once a loopback is set up, the equipment connected to the
user port must provide the clock signal, because the clock signal on
the Speed Touch 591s is looped back.
