Chapter 8: Powering On and Verifying the Stack
168
Introduction
This chapter contains instructions on powering on the stack for the first
time. As you will learn, how you initially power on the switches, either
sequentially or simultaneously, determines how the switch ID numbers are
assigned. Here are the procedures that you can choose from for initially
powering on the stack:
If you want to control the assignment of the ID numbers to the
switches, perform “Powering On the Switches Sequentially” on
page 169 The numbers are assigned in the order in which you
power on the units.
If you want the switches to assign the ID numbers automatically,
perform “Powering On the Switches Simultaneously” on page 172.
After the ID numbers are assigned, you can change them with the
STACK RENUMBER command, described in the
Software
Reference for x550 Series Switches, AlliedWare Plus Operating
System
.
For more information, refer to “Switch ID Numbers” on page 57.
Caution
You should not change the ID numbers of the switches after
configuring the parameter settings of the line cards. Otherwise, the
stack might assign configuration settings to the wrong units.
