3 Operation
Alpha Technologies
3.1 Novus Micro Special Features
Input Goes to the Output
When it is turned off, disabled or in a fault condition, the input power is passed directly
through to the output with no line conditioning provided. To disconnect line power to the
loads, turn off the unit’s input circuit breaker located on the front panel.
Boost and Buck Mode Operation
When the line voltage is low or high, the 3-level buck or boost mode uses the unit’s transformer
to adjust the line voltage to acceptable levels without using the battery (Section 3.9.4).
Low Battery Disconnect
When the battery is fully discharged, the unit goes into Shutdown mode (Section 3.9.7).
Line Requalification
When the unit is in Battery mode and the line becomes qualified, the unit will wait to see if the
line stays qualified before switching to Line mode (Section 3.9.4, “Line Requalifying”).
Control Panel
The control panel’s LEDs and push buttons (Section 3.9.1, Figure 3.4) lets you operate the unit,
provide status information and are used for troubleshooting. Detailed information on how to use
it is given in the rest of this section.
3.2 Turning the Unit On and Off
The front panel’s On/Off switch turns the unit on and off. If the unit is off and the input circuit
breaker is on, line power goes directly to the loads with no line conditioning or backup battery
power provided.
Turning the Unit On For the First Time
After the unit is installed it should be tested to make sure it is installed and operates correctly
and that the batteries can provide backup power.
Before starting, see that:
•
Utility power to the unit is turned off.
•
All loads connected to the unit are turned off.
•
The input circuit breaker on the unit’s front panel is off.
•
The unit’s On/Off switch is off.
