The basic system consists of the measuring
instrument, standards for calibration and testing,
the sample area locator, and the instrument case.
You should calibrate the instrument before starting
to measure. The stan dards are provided for this
pur pose. Be sure to always set the instrument on
the standard in the same direction. Always keep
the standards clean, or clean them before using
them.
When the measuring instrument is not in use, it is
best to store it in the instrument case. The case
is also the ideal place to store the accessories
provided with the instrument.
The simplest way to operate the instrument is
to grasp it from the side on which the battery
compartment is located. The thumb and last three
fingers slide into the depressions on the side of the
instrument. The index finger rests on the top of the
instru ment, where it can operate the cursor buttons
and the Operate button (Fig. 3).
When measurements are performed with the
automatic trigger, you can hold the instrument in
any desired manner. In this case, you can start
the measuring operation merely by applying even
pressure to the instrument from above (Fig. 4).
