Care for your product
All users must read this instruction manual fully, prior to operating ALTIVS. Please refer to it
regularly.
Only suitable for confident swimmers over 16 years of age who are fit and healthy. If you have
any medical condition that may be affected by extreme sports or strenuous activity, please
consult a physician before operating.
Always wear life-jacket or buoyancy aid in open water. Also recommend that when operated in
open water, users bring a personal floatation device, whistle and beacon for attracting
attention.
ALTIVS is not suitable for use by persons fitted with a pacemaker due to the possible risk of
interference from the electric motor and shark-guard (if fitted).
When possible, keep the shoreline or origin boat in plain sight. In case of large swell keep within
swimming range from point of origin.
ALTIVS is not a floatation device and therefore is not suitable as a swimming aid or for
life-saving. ALTIVS is only slightly buoyant to enhance underwater handling. It will therefore float
to the surface slowly if unassisted by the operator.
If you are operating ALTIVS solo, always tell a buddy or nominated companion where you are
intending on going and how long you will be.
In case of loss of power or malfunction during diving – LET GO OF ALTIVS AND SWIM FREE TO
SURFACE. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PULL ALTIVS UNIT TO THE SURFACE – it will float to the surface in
time.
Do not use in strong currents, waves, bad weather or poor visibility. Recommend use of full
wetsuit in cool or cold water to avoid hypothermia.
Holding on to ALTIVS is physically challenging, particularly underwater where the resistance
underwater is 12 times that of air. Diving with ALTIVS is a strenuous activity and recommended
that lower power levels are used when fully submerged. Using high power levels for sustained
periods may cause injury to arms, shoulders and neck – if you feel any discomfort drop to a
lower gear or stop to rest.
Do not physically attach yourself to ALTIVS by way of clips, lines, knots or carabiners at any time.
The accessory clip provided (item #11 on diagram) is to attach dry-bags and for use above
water.
Not suitable for use with SCUBA equipment without proper training. ALTIVS can only be used with
compressed air if user has undergone training for operation of DPVs (Diver Propulsion Vessel).
High risk of decompression sickness due to rapid (uncontrolled) ascents. Risk to life!
The depth meter on the user display is indicative only and should not be taken as an accurate
depth reading. It does not substitute a dive computer.
Do not use in close proximity to swimmers or divers. ALTIVS is capable of underwater speeds
much greater than swimmers or divers, please respect their space.
Not for use in marinas, harbours, shipping lanes, designated swimming areas or any restricted
areas.
Always keep a minimum safe distance of 5m from persons or objects. Keep regular
observations of nearby boats, buoys, fishing lines or hazards.
Plan your route, observe battery charge and return to base in good time. ALTIVS’s ECU will
automatically limit the gear when battery becomes critically low – this ‘get me home’ mode
consumes less power.
Do not wear loose clothing, keep long hair up or in a swim-cap and avoid trailing leads, straps
or belts when operating. Risk of injury if loose clothing or foreign objects enter the jet intake on
the underside of unit.
Do not reach into or place objects into jet intake. ALTIVS’s internal propeller will cause serious
injury. All repairs should be completed by an ALTIVS trained technician in a workshop
environment.
Only operate ALTIVS when floating free and in sufficiently deep water. Point away from objects
and other users.
Always start in a low gear (1 or 2) and sequentially increase the gears when moving. Starting in a
high gear may cause injury or dislocation of shoulders and cause unnecessary wear on the
internal drive system.
ALTIVS is capable of speeds that make it uncomfortable or impossible to see without using
protective goggles underwater. Flat faced goggles such as conventional SCUBA masks will
resonate at low speeds and may cause discomfort from drag. Suggested use of a low volume
and profiled mask such as a specialist free-diving mask.
Never operate ALTIVS under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Familiarise yourself with the
controls and handling of ALTIVS before venturing into open water.
Judge your surroundings and operate ALTIVS at a safe speed at all times. Learn to stop, handle
and manoeuvre ALTIVS proficiently in a closed environment such as a private swimming pool,
before heading out to open water. Always ride within your limits of both speed and depth.
The direction and orientation of ALTIVS is controlled by your body movement and requires thrust
from the waterjet to manoeuvre.
ALTIVS is a heavy object. Always lift unit in and out of the water, boats, cars etc with assistance.
Recommend using the ALTIVS trolley (available separately). If launching from beach, float the
unit as soon as possible and pull out to water which is sufficiently deep to operate.
The maximum diving depth can be set using the main user interface (see ALTIVS settings), it
allows a maximum value of 40m. When the vessel reaches the set depth limit propulsion will
stop allowing the unit to float back into within the acceptable depth - at which point, after a
short delay, propulsion will resume. Taking the unit beyond the maximum depth may damage
the internal seals and will invalidate the warranty.
Do not overload ALTIVS it is not intended for lifting or towing.
Do not apply throttle if unit is tethered or operating against a solid object.
Do not obstruct water inlet or jet outlet.
All the above-listed actions will drastically shorten the life of the digital electric motor.
Do not use within 1m of seabed, shallow water under 1m of depth or in sediment. Use in shallow
water or sediment will cause the water-jet system to ingest sand and debris which will cause
damage to propeller, seals and bearings.
Do not beach ALTIVS by running into shallow water. Large quantities of sand and debris may
damage the aluminium propeller.
Never drop or throw ALTIVS into water from a height greater than 50cm or jump from elevated
location holding ALTIVS. The shock and stresses may cause damage or cracks to the composite
and plastic components.
In case of waterjet ingesting seaweed, rope or any material that blocks the internal propeller,
ALTIVS will automatically stop power to the drive system. If the offending object is visible and
simple to remove, return unit to a dry surface, turn the unit off using the main menu function,
place upside down on a smooth clean surface and extract manually.
Do not operate ALTIVS out of water – the battery system and shaft seals will quickly overheat in
free air.
Do not disassemble or modify ALTIVS in any way. Adding supplementary equipment such as
bracketry that require modification of the bodywork may compromise the strength of structural
components causing stress fractures and will invalidate the warranty.
Ensure your ALTIVS is inspected and serviced every 200 hours or annually (whichever sooner) by
an official ALTIVS trained technician, or your warranty may become invalid.
Ensure your ALTIVS is in good physical and electrical condition before usage. Check each time
for cracks in hull or bodywork, misalignment of components or faults on the display – see
diagnostics section for error codes.
Do not leave ALTIVS in direct sunlight for prolonged periods. The surface temperature of the
ALTIVS bodywork may cause burns in hot environments. Sustained heat may also shorten the
life of your battery or cause them to malfunction. Please store in a shaded area and use the
reflective cover when shade is not available.
Always rinse through with fresh water after every use. Salt water is extremely corrosive,
accumulating salt deposits on internal components or bodywork will reduce the life of the
ALTIVS unit. Sand and small stones may accumulate in hull and chassis over time causing
performance issues. Place unit nose down and tilt upwards – preferably using the ALTIVS trolley
(sold separately). Place freshwater hose in rear outlets and flush out debris for at least 2 mins.
Do not use abrasives, alcohol-based or acid-based cleaning products to clean ALTIVS, use fresh
water with a little detergent or car wash solution with a soft damp cloth.
Use the original ALTIVS packaging supplied with the unit to store ALTIVS when not in use. Ensure
the drainage plug has been removed from the base of the packing box.
Ensure ALTIVS is thoroughly drained and allow to dry thoroughly before transporting or putting
into storage.
The ALTIVS water scooters respond to the highest standards of quality and
tested to some extreme depths and conditions prior to dispatch. However, there
exists a possibility a defect or damage may occur during exploitation.
Our processor regularly scans the entire system to pick up on any slightest
abnormalities. Should any part of the system respond abnormally an error
message will flash on the screen. The Error screen will contain a unique code
specific for each kind of error (whether it relates with the battery, the screen, the
lights, etc). We ask that if an error screen shows on your device, you contact
your ALTIVS dealer or the ALTIVS headquarters directly. Please report the unit VIN
number and the error code seen on the s
