Step 11 Perform Initial Test and Configuration
Before powering up the system to perform the initial test, review the
following checklist:
_
make sure that all adapter cards are seated properly,
_
make sure all connectors are properly seated,
_
if the math coprocessor is used, make sure it is seated
properly,
_
make sure there are no screws or other foreign material on
the motherboard,
_
plug the system into a surge-protected power strip, and
_
make sure blank back panels are installed on the back of the
chassis to minimize RF emissions.

Plug everything in and turn on the switch. If there are any signs of a
problem, turn off the unit immediately. Reinstall the connectors. The
fuse may have to be reset. Call AMI Technical Support if there are
additional problems.

If the system operates normally, a display should appear on the
monitor. The BIOS Power On Self Test (POST) should run. If POST
does not run successfully, it beeps or display error messages. If the
unit needs to be configured, instructions on how to enter Setup are
displayed.

Run Setup to provide the requested information and save the
configuration data in CMOS RAM. The system then resets, runs
POST, and boots the operating system. See page 52.
