4.5.2 Quench Rate
The new maths function allows the user to continuously calculate the quench
rate of extruded aluminium section and to output the calculated quench rate
as a linear 0 or 4 to 20mA signal.
The Maths Card has two independently configurable maths function channels.
Therefore, up to two quench rate calculations may be made simultaneously by
the Maths Card.
The quench rate maths function uses the following calculation:
Quench Rate (°C/s or °F/s) = [Thermometer
primary
- Thermometer
secondary
]/
Δ
T
Where:
•
Quench rate
= the average rate of cooling of the section during the
time between Thermometer
primary
and Thermometer
secondary
temperature
measurements.
•
Δ
T
= the time in seconds required for the section to travel between the
primary thermometer target and that of the secondary thermometer.
Δ
T
is equivalent to distance/speed where:-
Speed
is that of the extruded section
Distance
is between the
Thermometer
primary
and the
Thermometer
secondary
measurements points.
