SERVICE NOTICE
180S Seamer
Retrofitting Rotary Union Shield P/N 197S854
(for Seamers using Rotating Union P/N 40S814)
Objective:
Prevent penetration of grease, that may originate from the Rotating Union area, into the
Upper Turret.
Installation Procedure:
CAUTION:
To prevent damage to the seals of the Rotating Union, Do Not Apply to it bend
stress, torque or radial pressure.
Observe before dis-assembly that a vertical clearance of 1/16" is allowed, top &
bottom, between the holes and the pipe nipples. Elongate holes if needed before
re-assembly
1.
Match mark both ends of all three Feed Hoses and their connections for re-
assembly. Disconnect all three at the swivel end.
2.
Remove two 1/4" N.PT. x 4 1/2" L. nipples (items 1 & 2 of illustration on next
page) and one 1/4" N.P.T. x 6" L. nipple (item 3). These should come out with
couplings and fittings attached.
3.
Mark the position of 107S854 Top Access Housing and remove. Clean Permatex
Liquid Gasket material from Top Plate and Housing surfaces.
4.
Clean up any grease that may have accumulated around the 20S816 Bearing
Locknut.
5.
Slide Rotary Union Shield 197S854 onto Rotating Union 40S814.. Align
1/2" hole with tube fitting and push into position as shown in illustration.
6.
Disengage Clamp 20P439. Fit Clamp between Shield and bottom of 3/4" N.P.T.
threads in both Hex. Bushing and Plug. Engage Clamp and tighten.

7.
Apply Permatex Liquid Gasket material to Top Access Housing and Top Plate
mounting surfaces. Install Housing into its original position.
8.
Apply Teflon pipe sealant paste to ends of all three nipples items 3, 2, & 1.
Install in this order.
CAUTION:
All three nipples must be secure against leakage. Be extremely careful not to
over torque these as they tighten within the Rotating Union. Bending the Union
may disrupt seals within.
8.
Connect three Feed Hoses previously marked for their original location.
9.
Check the assembly for any leakge of oil or grease.
